La Mirada, Los Angeles County
Andrew McNally, the Chicago mapmaker of Rand McNally, bought ranch land here in 1888, planted olive and citrus groves and named the place La Mirada. The house of his son-in-law survives in Neff Park. The city incorporated in 1960 and operates the La Mirada Theatre, which has staged plays and musicals since 1977.
